Alkoomi's crack team have produced another excellent, expressive chardonnay. Delicate flavours of grapefruit and fresh ginger sit alongside crisp, flinty notes. Nutty undertones and fine mineral acidity carry the palate to a long finish.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 92 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Machine-picked early morning, settled for 24 hours, fermented in new and used French oak with 9 months maturation. Only just gets out of sauvignon blanc territory, but having done so, unfurls its wings of grapefruit, stone fruit and apple. Let no one suggest it is oaky, because it is emphatically fruit-driven."
2014 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "From the oldest blocks on the estate, fermented in new and used French oak and matured for 8 months on lees; totally delicious and harmonious, the fruit with all the right flavours of fresh-cut white peach and a squeeze of grapefruit; immaculate length and balance, the oak entirely soaked up by the fruit."
From the Winery
After an early morning harvest, the juice from the estate grown fruit was pressed to tank, allowed to settle overnight and then fermented in new, one year old and two year old French oak. After 9 months maturation on lees, the wine was blended and bottled.
A cool wet winter and early spring was followed by a warm even summer with well timed rainfall and a typically cool autumn. This resulted in perfect ripening conditions and provided an intense flavour profile with optimal natural acidity
