"Dijon clones, hand-picked, whole bunches, barrel-fermented in French oak (33% new). Does nothing to challenge the view that Beechworth is a first class region for chardonnay, something often forgotten in the context of Margaret River and Yarra Valley. The perfect balance of white peach and pink grapefruit, the palate long and unhurried."
Pale yellow in colour with lots of green tints through it. The aroma is distinctive pear and peach fruit. There's less citrus flavour than earlier vintages owing to the warmer vintage, but notes of bran meal are present. Rich on the palate with abundant white peach flavour, enjoy now or in the next 4-6 years.
Awards and Accolades
96 Points, Special Value Wine - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Features the very good Dijon clones, hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, fermented and matured in French oak (33% new). While this shares the white peach and grapefruit flavour of its Orange sibling, there is an added thrust and drive to the palate, the long finish reflecting that drive."

From the Winery
Whole bunch pressing, wild ferment in new French oak have come together in spectacular fashion. The wine was fermented in 30% new French oak and the balance older, from a variety of cooperages.
Our Beechworth neighbour Rick Kinzbrunner from Giaconda has had immense success with his Beechworth Chardonnay, highlighting the great quality of this region. Different soils, aspect, clones and age of vines on the Indigo property will lead our Chardonnay in a different direction but with minimum winemaker input, the region still expresses itself.
