We all know how hot Chardonnay is right now, hotter than a bearded man riding around on a fix-gear bike. This option from a Five Star Halliday Producer is big, rich and ripe. An expressive Charddy that stays loyal to the region and variety to a tee. From the nose to the palate, it's dominated by ripe melons, zesty grapefruits and spicy oak, and finishes on a plush and lingering note. Wonderfully balanced with a fine acid backbone and integrated fine French oak, this is a wine that won't let you down. One that perfectly showcases the regional strength of Coonawarra, we're very pleased to be bringing you first class Chardonnay for this incredible price.
From the Winery: This cool climate Chardonnay has benefitted from the extended ripening season allowing intense citrus/tropical fruit characters to develop. Wine has been made using fruit harvested from an established Central Coonawarra vineyard (Killian Vineyard, approximately 20 years old). The crop yielded was low with only 3.1 tonnes per acre. The fruit was picked at optimum ripeness allowing an intense fruit driven wine to be made, made a little more complex with the addition of French oak staves and domino’s. Wine bottled in January 2014 and exhibits intense tropical fruit characters of citrus and pineapple, a smooth palate and easy mouth feel. Hints of oak characters compliment the fruit flavours. An excellent varietal, this wine is good drinking now but with careful cellaring will develop for a 3-5 years. Wine is best consumed while young, exhibiting fresh tropical characters.
