Particularly expressive of its terroir with minerality, texture and fleshy stonefruit characters. This wine opens with vivid aromas of wet limestone, pink grapefruit and white blossom followed ever so delicately by hazelnut kernel. The palate is initially expressive of mineral, wet-slate flavours and textures, before opening up to reveal fleshy nectarine and white peach. Despite 100% natural malolactic fermentation, the wine has extensive purity, drive and length.
The cool and compressed style here is really impressive, offering a bright and fine citrus and peach nose, fresh and airy, really vibrant. The palate delivers crisp, citrus-tinged stone fruit flavour amid driving acidity that holds the whole thing fresh and bright. Lovely finesse here too, great balance. Pale straw-green, has the savoury minerality that underpins most Tasmanian chardonnays, creating a degree of drive and energy, the fruit unfolding with some bottle age. That is the case here, although you can see the stone fruit that will progressively grow in bottle. Vintage: 2011 Score: 93 James Halliday
