The Highlander focuses on everyday table wines that are the definition of approachable. Besides representing awesome value for money and hailing from a region that is really starting to hit its straps - especially with Chardonnay - Highlander approach their business in a consumer savvy way. They know that their customer likes and they aim to please. This cheeky little wine is a fresh, sumptuous style that shows tropical fruit salad smells on the nose with whiffs of creaminess. Cool aromas of grapefruits, white stone fruits and cashews decorate the nose, whilst the palate is peachy and a touch savoury, with licks of toasty oak, racy lemony acidity, and a long, crisp finish. The palate is vibrant and crisp with more of those fruit salad flavours, a vanilla ice-cream mouthfeel, and a bright, dry finish. The ideal Friday casual wine, this is truly lovely stuff indeed.
From the Winery: Winemaker’s Notes: The grapes were hand picked, whole bunch pressed directly to barrel for fermentation and maturation in a range of new and older, tightly grained French barriques. Food Suggestions: A great wine to experiment food matching with. Try roast chicken thigh fillets on a bed of moroccan lemon zest carrot, Heirloom Parsnip served with couscous.
Highlander Wines was established in 1977 when the Cumming family planted the Mountilford vineyard in the central highlands of NSW. The original vineyard comprised Riesling, Shiraz, Cabernet and Sylvaner. Today, the philosophy of growing cool climate, high elevation wines is being carried forward under the Highlander name.
