Find yourself a nice sunny spot, sit back, relax and enjoy the moment. For those who love the powerfully robust style of Chardonnay with real flavour and character, this wine combines that luscious richness with a seamless, clean freshness. It’s like bumping into an old friend, familiar yet it has an added dimension, exciting and provocative - You ant to know more about how they are doing!. It has generous oak intensity with ripe fruit characters of melon and peach with buttery vanilla cream, shortbread and hazelnuts. It’s got a gorgeous appearance with hints of gold and a seductive bouquet of tropical fruits and honey. The palate is full-bodied with silky oak tannins and integrated acid and alcohol sweetness.
Vintage 2014 was excellent for McLaren Vale, not too hot, but warm enough to produce ripe, rich flavours. For those who love the more robust style of Chardonnay with real flavour and character, this wine combines that luscious richness with a sensitive clean freshness. Lots of lees contact and some oxidative handling softens the acidity and builds palate weight and texture. This wine has generous oak intensity with ripe fruit characters of melon and peach with buttery vanilla cream, shortbread and hazelnuts. The appearance has hints of gold with a seductive bouquet of tropical fruits and honey. The palate is full-bodied with silky oak tannins and integrated acid and alcohol sweetness. The finish is long and dry and lasts well after the last drop. It’s great with a multitude of dishes and I prefer to serve it with only light chilling (approx 12 degrees) which allows the oaky, buttery characters to come through on the finish.
The fruit for this wine comes from the highly awarded vineyard. 2014 was a great vintage achieved high levels of ripeness giving generous flavours and high alcohol. The wine was then matured in 2 separate batches 65% went into used French oak (2-3 years old) for 18 months to allow subtle oxidation and maximum flavour uptake without aggressive oak characters. The balance was kept in stainless steel to retain clean acid freshness. The 2 parcels were blended together in February 2015 and allowed to integrate for a further 6 months before bottling. The result is a full bodied Chardonnay with depth, maturity and surprising freshness.
