Mountadam vineyards continue to produce fine wine from across the Barossa region. This is a fantastic fruit-driven Chardonnay that elegantly combines citrus acidity and white fruit softness with a creamily textured palate. The finish has great length and lingers beautifully. A consistently high scoring wine with critics, we recommend you add at least a couple to your next mixed dozen.
Accolades and Awards:
2014 Vintage: 94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Bright straw-green; there's no doubt Mountadam has been the foremost producer of chardonnay in the Eden Valley over the past two decades. This isn't particularly complex, but it has an appealing mix of ripe citrus (Meyer lemon), white peach and melon, oak restrained. Likely a very low yield."
From the Winery
Harvest of the fruit commenced in late February 2015. The fruit was gently pressed and then cold settled. After racking the juice was fermented with a specialised Chardonnay yeast in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation temperature was carefully controlled to ensure an even fermentation. Minimal fining and filtration was engaged in the production of this wine.
Established in 1972, Mountadam was founded by the late David Wynn, without question one of the most significant contributors to the Australian wine industry and an important part of the Mountadam story. In selecting the land for the Mountadam vineyard, Wynn was the first to recognise the potential of a cool, elevated site to produce wines of great elegance and structure, and chose an area high above the Eden Valley, which he named High Eden. At 550m above sea level, Mountadam is in fact the most elevated vineyard in South Australia.
Winemaking is managed by Con Moshos, who has a distinguished 23-year career making fine wines at Petaluma. Mountadam has some of the most enviable resources available for Chardonnay with many varied clones, aged vineyards and geographical aspects.
