Beautiful Chardonnay from a benchmark producer. This beckoning light golden wine is lustrous in the bottle and even more enticing in the glass. The nose shows well developed, elegant and sun drenched peach and stone fruit aromas that are fulfilling aromatically alongside engaging subtle melon notes.
The fruit is complimented by hints of beautiful restrained American & French oak, wisely forming a solid background of vanilla. The real surprise starts with the swirl and sip stage! Unexpectedly you are presented with a fresh, lively wine, with a delightful refreshing and lingering finish.
This wine is full of flavour and nicely balance with acid still integral to the finished wine. on all fronts, it is a very attractive proposition with melon and peach the predominating characters. The barrel maturation has given the wine a more rounded mouth feel with subtle oak flavours. An absolute steal at this price and a beauty for the picnic, travel, car, or fridge for an every night cook one glass, dinner one glass! Salute!
STAFF TASTING: A brilliant result, with two tasters rating it in their top three selections for the day. Displaying stonefruit, buttered popcorn and cut grass on the nose, combined with a dry, elegant, cashew shaded palate, the 2006 Chardonnay, especially in a 'French Lunch' bottle, should provide fuel for debate. Tasters: TE, MM, BK.
