Sourced and grown in the Adelaide Hills, this is a fine example of how good Chardonnay from this region can be. This is a blend of 3 different cultivars of the Chardonnay grape. Bunch pressed and in part wild fermented. Partial malolactic fermentation imparts further complexity. A beautifully textured and complex wine.
Reviews
2014 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Largely ex the Lenswood vineyard, handpicked, chilled overnight; whole bunch pressed, wild yeast-fermented in new and used French barriques; 9 months maturation. Makes its presence felt the first millisecond it enters the mouth, but doesn't threaten. A seamless fusion of white peach, biscuity oak and fresh acidity."
2014 Vintage: 94 Points - Mike Bennie, Wine Front "It tastes like crunchy skinned chardonnay grapes from a cool place. True to the variety, not afraid to be edgy, but also show some finesse of oak handling and a quiet concentration of flavour. Bouquet shows faint nuttiness with green apple, quince, citrus. Fresh fruit flavours are trimmed with fine chalky fringes and gentle nougat and cedar touches. Long in flavour, fine, well done chardonnay. Will cellar well too I suspect."
From the Winery
A beautifully complex nose showing lemon, apple and white peach along with biscuit notes. The palate displays trademark M3 elegance and restraint with an extra dimension of creaminess through the finish. A wine of depth and concentration that balances generous fruit flavours with savoury characters and crisp acidity.
Sourced principally from the Shaw + Smith vineyard at Lenswood. Low yields achieved by aggressive pruning and pre harvest bunch thinning. Hand picked to avoid fruit damage.
Whole bunches chilled overnight prior to pressing. Barrel fermentation in new, one and two year old French barriques. Wild yeast fermentation and partial malolactic fermentation add complexity and mouth-feel. Nine months in barrique, with some lees stirring to build complexity. Special care is taken not to over oak the wine, maintaining fruit integrity.
