Brilliant pale straw colour with watery hue. The nose opens with cashew, delicate white peach and nectarine top notes followed by some light toast and spice. Matured in 100% French oak for a duration of 9 months (26% new oak and 74% 1-2 year old oak) the wine is medium weight with an elegant mouthfeel delivering flavours of white peach intermixed with cashew followed by a trace of citrus, some toastiness and spice. Clean dry finish. Good length with long white peach, cashew, light biscuit, toast and spice aftertaste.
Awards and Accolades
2014 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Hand-picked, chilled and whole bunch-pressed, cloudy juice to 50% new French barriques for fermentation and 9 months maturation. This is more about complexity than single-minded energy, and suggests some accidental mlf may have formed a part of the blend assembled at the end of maturation. It is rich with cashew, fig and white peach fruit seamlessly flowing through the palate."
2014 Vintage: 93 Points, Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "It is what it is. It steps out into the day and takes on the world with breezy indifference. Sunny but elegant, oaked but harmoniously so, fleshy with fruit but boasting more than an ounce of finesse. No queries or qualms, just pure quality."
From the Winery
The fruit was hand-harvested, chilled, gently whole-bunch pressed and transferred to French oak barriques as unclarified juice for fermentation with only natural yeasts from the vineyard. Each parcel was left on lees in barrel for 9 months of maturation with battonage.
Mild conditions in Margaret River with no extreme weather conditions, allowing for balanced fruit and a slow and steady intake. There was no disease pressure and fruit quality is excellent the only disappointment was yields being down across the Region for all key varieties. This was the outcome of storms in Spring and pressure from an increase in the local population of Silver Eyes (birds) and no Marri Blossom.
