Ripe and expressive, the 2016 Chardonnay from Wicks Estate combines full fruit flavours with a complex buttery, oaky texture. The nose offers light citrus, white peach, faint melon and spice along with almond notes. The palate is smooth and polished, intricate layers of white peach and butterscotch are complimented by orange blossom and refreshing cool climate acidity. With well worked oak through the finish, this is drinking fantastically now but a few years won't hurt it!
Awards and Accolades
94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Dijon clones 76 and 96, Selective machine-harvested, crushed and destemmed, wild-yeast fermented in French (25% new), matured for 8 months. Fine, elegant and long, a prime example of modern chardonnay at an affordable price"
90 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "Grapefruit is the dominant flavour. It’s pure and well-enough powered, particularly as its supported here by fresh notes of citrus and steely pear. Oak? There’s a sweet, cedary character but it plays second or third fiddle. Freshness of fruit is the go here. It seems a bit lean and simple at first but as it breathes it gets its mojo going."
2014 Vintage: SILVER - Asia Decanter Wine Awards 2015 BRONZE - 2015 Cowra Wine Show 2015
