There is plenty to love about this, even for those of you who aren't Riesling's biggest fans. While it is perhaps sweeter than average it manages to avoid overpowering the other flavours, instead providing a complimentary backdrop for a marriage of floral and citrus elements that make this such a spectacular wine. Pure gold in colour with flawlessly subtle notes of floral jasmine, honeysuckle, marmalade and stone fruit on the nose. The flavour manages to be both sweet and refreshing, an interplay of lemon and honey with a clear bright finish.
Awards and Accolades
2013 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "The grapes were crushed for an overnight cold soak to increase aroma and flavour extraction, then lightly pressed to tank for freeze concentration until the baume reached 19?, transferred to oak for wild yeast fermentation while the residual sugar of 197g/l remained, then cross-flow filtered and bottled. A glorious interplay between lemon and honey. 375ml."
2011 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Gleaming green-gold; an outstanding example of the style, with an awesome 153g/1 residual sugar balanced by 11.8g/1 of total acidity; the intensity of flavor, and its extreme length, have more in common with the sweetest (trockenbeerenauslese style) wines of Austria and Germany than with any other Australian wine."
From the Winery
The highly acclaimed Frogmore Creek wines are from the genuine cool-climate of southern Tasmania, where our sustainably grown grapes benefit from a long growing season. These slowly-ripened grapes develop pure fruit flavours, fresh natural acidity and are perfect for making seriously good wine.
The aromatic iced wines are crafted through freeze concentrating freshly pressed grape juice, intensifying flavour, sugar and acid. Mandarin aromas with subtle sweet honey tones and bruised apple flavours. Some tropical notes. Crisp and lengthy. This wine goes well with lemon curd tarts or a selection of fine Tasmanian cheeses.
