I really want to make a joke about this being “Harder Better Faster Stronger,” but in this case Dufte Punkt actually means the Aromatic Point – not a reference to the seminal electronic music duo. And aromatic is a good way to describe this. Made from a blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and the little known Weisser Herold (of which there are only 2 blocks planted in Australia) it’s this masterful combination of different elements that makes this so enjoyable. Lychees and a sugary floral (I’ll call it Turkish delight) linger on the nose and flow into the palate. The tanginess of mandarins are played against an edge of minerality and a powdery floral flavour – the result is complex without being overwhelming. Without a doubt you’ll find yourself wanting this “One More Time”.
James Halliday 5 Star Winery Chaffey Bros was co-founded by Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, whose great-uncle Bill Chaffey founded Seaview Wines in McLaren Vale, and he in turn was a descendant of the Chaffey brothers who came to Australia to create the Riverina and Riverland regions by designing and implementing the original irrigation schemes. Daniel, born and raised in the Barossa Valley, picked grapes during school holidays, and later on worked at Penfolds cellar door. After eight years of selling and helping other people create wine labels, he became a bulk wine merchant dealing in both Australian and overseas wines and wineries and also developing a range of branded wines.
Tony Love, Adelaide Review Hot 100: It’s an aromatic masterwork, with rose, musk, Turkish delight, a distinctive fennel seed note and spiced apple, all given a neat edge from the riesling’s natural acid.
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front: 91 points Well, it’s certainly aromatic! Musk sticks, radish, ginger, bath salts, ruby red grapefruit, lychee, etc etc. It’s light and fresh, loaded with mouth perfume and spice, has clear acidity, almost watery delicate flavour -in a good way – then a spicy dry finish. Curious wine. Has some sweetness, but works well as a whole. Like it. Would go very well with spicy food.
