Chaffey Bros was co-founded by Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, whose great-uncle Bill Chaffey founded Seaview Wines in McLaren Vale, and he in turn was a descendant of the Chaffey brothers who came to Australia to create the Riverina and Riverland regions by designing and implementing the original irrigation schemes. Daniel, born and raised in the Barossa Valley, picked grapes during school holidays, and later on worked at Penfolds cellar door. After eight years of selling and helping other people create wine labels, he became a bulk wine merchant dealing in both Australian and overseas wines and wineries and also developing a range of branded wines.

It’s an aromatic masterwork, with rose, musk, Turkish delight, a distinctive fennel seed note and spiced apple, all given a neat edge from the riesling’s natural acid.

Well, it’s certainly aromatic! Musk sticks, radish, ginger, bath salts, ruby red grapefruit, lychee, etc etc. It’s light and fresh, loaded with mouth perfume and spice, has clear acidity, almost watery delicate flavour -in a good way – then a spicy dry finish. Curious wine. Has some sweetness, but works well as a whole. Like it. Would go very well with spicy food.
