The 2016 vintage of Spring Vale's Gewurz delivers an elegant nose of light floral notes and aromas of lychee and spice. The palate offers great depth to the fruit flavour, sweetness is held in check by phenolic flavours and light acidity. Match this up with food of your choice and it won't disappoint. Especially good with spiced Moroccan dishes.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "It has overdrive as an option but it remains in fourth gear. It's a good way to drive gewurz. It has power, personality and length without revving the charm, or drinkability, out of it."
2014 Vintage: 92 Points - Mike Bennie, Wine Front "Smells fantastic – rose floral things, red currants, Turkish delight, musk sticks. In the palate, slippery but finishes very dry and tangy, almost chalky. Good concentration of flavours, good length of flavour. It’s the kind of thing that would go so well with it’s ideal match of spicy, chilli-centric south east Asian dishes."
From the Winery
The Spring Vale Gewürztraminer vines were planted in 1996 and an additional 1 hectare was planted at the ‘Melrose’ vineyard, just to the north of Spring Vale, in 2008.
The fruit from Spring Vale was whole bunch pressed and settled overnight. The Melrose fruit was destemmed and crushed into the press, then clarified by floatation and combined with the whole bunch press juice. The juice was then split into separate fermentation tanks for comparison of the two organic yeasts (isolated in Germany).
