Loads of attractive aromas of fresh fruit and mandarin, with a hint of spice. The emphasis is well and truly on fresh fruit flavours; white peach and pear intertwined with light nutty undertones. The finish is refreshing, with 12 month maturation in neutral French oak developing the creamy texture.
Delicious and ready to drink now, recommended pairing with grilled salmon, trout and Thai flavours. This wine is organically produced and vegan friendly.
Awards and Accolades
Natural / Biodynamic Winery of the Year - New York International Wine Competition 2015
2013 Vintage: 91 Points - Cameron Douglas, The Shout NZ: Alluring and complex bouquet of honeysuckle, wild flowers, organic apple and pears, leesy spicey and mild toasty layer. On the palate – equally complex and layered with wild white honey and flowers, fresh and baked pear, light spices and plenty of texture; energy and charm, lengthy finish – a lovely wine.
From the Winery
The Pinot Gris is grown in both the clay soils of the estate Winsome vineyard and the stony soils of the estate Huia vineyard. During the winter, vines are spur pruned to reduce crop potential; through the growing season, bunches are thinned for the evening ripening.
After hand harvesting, pressing and settling, the juice goes to tank for fermentation. Two thirds of the juice awaits natural fermentation before being moved to neutral French oak barrels for the fermentation and maturation with lees stirring. The remainder is inoculated with wine yeast and fermented through to wine in tank.
