Blue Gold Trophy - Sydney International winner 2016. These guys are really on fire this last two years..... One very successful Pinot Gris you will be able to afford and be very comfortable with as a perfect food wine.
This light, slightly sweet but yummy fleshy style of Pinot Gris makes for excellent value everyday drinking. Smells like Pinot Grigio being slightly fleshier, delightful poached pears, lemon curd and lime juice leap out of the glass, along with a very subtle hint of ginger spice. The palate is a tad sweeter than expected, but still in the off-dry spectrum, with pear, apple and honey flavours, soft acidity, and a smooth, sweet finish. Give it good chill and enjoy on a casual evening with your mates some creamy pasta with Morton bay bugs and a salad of pumpkin and cous cous and pomegranate.
SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL JUDGES COMMENTS: Judges' Comments Kym Milne Some spice and pear aromatics but overall tending fairly neutral. Very clean and fresh. Quite an easy white with some nice texture. A good refreshing foil with the food.
Brent Marris Full floral aromas. Quite a sweet and concentrated palate. Rich and ripe. A real Alsatian style. Layers of flavour. A lovely match as the Pinot Gris balances out the mussel and salmon beautifully.
Jo Burzynska This wine has sweet peach fruit and notes of vanilla pod and showing a strong floral character with appealing viscosity to its texture and intensity. A fruit driven style.
Ken Dobler A lovely bright green colour. A more savoury style with cut pear vanilla and spice aromas on the nose. A very textural palate with a balanced hint of residual sugar which would pair well with Asian influenced food.
Meg Brodtmann Lemon curd with an odd cooked cheese aroma. Hints of minerality and some lactic aromas. White florals and saffron. It had a lovely tight fresh and chalky palate with floral and fruit salad flavours. It was a really good match with the food.
Warren Gibson Lifted pure and attractive on the nose. A rich concentrated palate. Well done. Long and lingering. Beautiful and spicy with the salmon. This match really works. Long and lingering.
Wilfred Wong It seemed to be a little advanced in the nose. Quite evolved. The palate was a little earthy and flat and it did not work well with the dish. Even though the wine was flat it did finish tart and that bite didn’t work with the dish.
