Derwent Estate Riesling has an elegant and perfumed aroma, with lime fruits and bright acidity on the palate with a crisp dry finish.
Awards and Accolades
92 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "21yo vines, hand-picked, cool-fermented in stainless steel with cultured yeast, bottled within 90 days of harvest. A very enjoyable Tasmanian riesling, the richness of the palate reflecting the high (for riesling) alcohol. The balance is the usual potent acidity of Tasmania. Excellent early drinking proposition."
From the Winery
On a north facing bank of the Derwent River this 21-year-old cool-climate vineyard in Southern Tasmania has its riesling block on the uppermost slope. The soils are shallow, permeable loams over limestone that allow this variety to develop intensity and definition while retaining delicacy.
Hand picked then pressed under inert gas. The juice is filtered and fermenting within 24hrs of harvest, without being chilled or reheated. The fermentation takes place using cultured yeast at extremely cool temperatures, below 9 degrees C, over 30-35 days. The wine is stabilised, lightly fined, filtered and bottled. All within 90 days from harvest.
