German Riesling has that added oomph often missing from Aussie options. There's something racy and exhilarating about them, they're bitey and sexy, but with plenty of classic elegance. Dr Loosen's Dr. L is really exceptional though, it's refreshing and fruity, with a fine mineral edge that is typical of the Mosel region. Chalky mineral and faintly honeysuckle aromas, the taste is delicate and restrained, fresh and crisp with good acidity and an ever so slight touch of sweetness, barely apparent. What else does one do with such a Riesling, drink it up with food with plenty of spice!
Awards and Accolades
2014 Vintage: 90 Points, Best Buy - Wine Enthusiast “Juicy streaks of grapefruit and pineapple in this spry, dry Riesling are cut by laser focused acidity and rocky edges of slate. It’s approachable and fresh yet abundantly."
From the Winery
The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen assumed ownership in 1988, he realized that he had vines in some of Germany’s best-rated vineyards. To maximize the potential of those vines, he dramatically restricts crop size, uses only organic fertilization, insists on very strict fruit selection, and employs gentle cellar practices with a minimum of handling. Located in far western Germany, the Mosel valley’s steep, southfacing slopes create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal exposure to the sun. The cool climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining bright acidity.
They are produced with grapes from contracted growers throughout the Mosel River valley who work closely with brothers Ernst and Thomas Loosen to achieve excellent quality and superb concentration in every vintage.
