Bright pale straw colour with green tinge. Lifted nose delivering a distinctive lift of lime, orange blossom and just a hint of tropical fruit. The palate flavours are impressive, reflecting the nose with lime and orange blossom dominant over a lemon back palate. Crisp acid finish. Lime and orange aftertaste.
Accolades and Awards:
96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Pale straw-green, this is a first-class riesling with a highly fragrant, blossom-filled bouquet and chock-full of sweet lime juice fruit on the mid-palate before minerally acidity drives through on the long, lingering dry finish."
From the Winery
The 2012/13 growing season was excellent. Budburst occured a little earlier than average on 29th September, a warm flowering late November and harvest on the 15th of March. As with 2012 the harvest was almost a full month ahead of our average Riesling picking date of 9th April. Crop level was about average at 2.9 kg/vine ripening conditions being mild and dry.
Temperatures early in the growing season were warmer than average and summer was close to average. There was only one period of high temperatures early in January which was well before veraison thus having little flavour impact. Heat degree days for the season were 1248 which is a little below our average of 1266.
The growing season was extraordinarily dry. Our average rainfall Oct-March inclusive is 230mm but in the 12/13 season we had just 91mm. We run our vineyard without irrigation and some vines showed the effects of the lack of rain. Any exposed fruit or less than healthy vines we avoid picking which is one of the great benefits of hand harvesting. I am happy to sacrifice some fruit in dry years for the positive effects of no artificial irrigation on the vine and the flavours produced in the grapes.
