Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling 2011 |

"Opens with a puff of talc and granny’s lavender pouches then lemongrass and faint citrus. The palate is very fine, steely and linear. Lemon and lime dominate now, though there are some floral notes and a backing track of minerals and more talc. A phenolic bridge drives the wine long with great natural acidity keeping things focussed and fresh. Feels brittle and crackling with energy; utterly delicious to drink. Hold onto your hats. Rated : 94 Points" - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.
Awesome. No real question about it. Lots of rampaging, lemony acidity but a kick of lime and blooms of fuzzy, budding spring flowers. There’s a grind of citrus zest as it scorches through the finish, and it is heavy on acidity, but this should live and develop for a long, long time.
The 2011 will surely evolve in bottle as beautifully as the other classic cool Clare year 2002. It will age extremely slowly and gracefully for many decades, the screwcap helping to retain freshness. The 2011 Riesling is a wine to sit alongside the great 1980 and 2002 vintages.
