Welcome to one of Australia's most respected Sauvignon Blancs. Also one of the most consistent. This little gem comes from Adelaide Hills in South Australia, which is a place that is cooler and has more moisture than its other South Australian counterparts... just right for this Sauvignon Blanc (the region also does Pinot Gris/Grigio impressively well too).
The glass is luminescent with a pale straw colour that is bright and lively. The aromas are of passionfruit and tropical fruits with a combination of citrus and slight grassy notes. These aromas convert easily to flavours on the palate with a zesty backbone that is so lively and delicious.
There is balance here, as well as a fight for domination as one flavour releases everything it has only to be conquered by another that simply slips into its place. The balance is in the zesty acidity with the ripe flavours, and this carries to the finish where it is long and persistent. This wine will be remembered well after the final sip is taken.
Awards and Accolades
94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Adelaide Hills enjoyed a picture-perfect vintage, with moderate yields ripening to perfection. No winemaking tricks, cool fermentation in stainless steel and early bottling. The wine verges on fleshy on the mid-palate, then finishes with a swagger of limey natural acidity on the long, fresh finish. Flavours? Grapefruit and a touch of passionfruit."
Past Vintages
2014 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "The run of quality continues but the vibrancy of this release sets it apart. This glistens both in the glass and on the palate. Vibrant tropical fruit with nuances of cut grass and chalk. Bounces with flavour from the attack all the way through to a lengthy finish. Reeks of fruit and confidence, as they say."
2013 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Yes, this is the epicentre of Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc, but it has the X factor big time. The fruit aromas and flavours are largely tropical, but there is an almost glossy mouthfeel on the tip of the tongue, the fruit flavours kicking in on the back-palate and finish, And yes again, it has nothing to do with Marlborough sauvignon blanc."
From the Winery
The core of the blend comes from our own estate vineyards at Balhannah and Lenswood. This is complemented by fruit from a small number of highly valued growers.
2015 was a remarkable vintage. Above average winter rainfall ensured a good start to the growing season and warm weather in late December / early January was moderated by useful rain on the 13th of January. The season concluded with mild, steady conditions and delivered fruit of wonderful quality to the winery.
