Welcome to one of Australia's most respected Sauvignon Blancs. Also one of the most consistent. This little gem comes from Adelaide Hills in South Australia, which is a place that is cooler and has more moisture than its other South Australian counterparts... just right for this Sauvignon Blanc (the region also does Pinot Gris/Grigio impressively well too).
The glass is luminescent with a pale straw colour that is bright and lively. The aromas are of passionfruit and tropical fruits with a combination of citrus and slight grassy notes. These aromas convert easily to flavours on the palate with a zesty backbone that is so lively and delicious.
There is balance here, as well as a fight for domination as one flavour releases everything it has only to be conquered by another that simply slips into its place. The balance is in the zesty acidity with the ripe flavours, and this carries to the finish where it is long and persistent. This wine will be remembered well after the final sip is taken.
Awards and Accolades
2016 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "For long accepted as the benchmark for Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc, and you don't have to go past the bouquet to figure out why: just about every tropical fruit you can imagine is on display from custard apple at one extreme, kiwi fruit and green pineapple at the other (Michael Hill-Smith rejects gooseberry on the basis this means cape gooseberry, rarely encountered in Australia). It all adds up to a complete wine made to be enjoyed until the queue forms for the next release."
From the Winery
The core of the blend comes from our own estate vineyards at Balhannah and Lenswood. This is complemented by fruit from a small number of highly valued growers.
Shaw + Smith began over a long lunch in 1989 when cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith decided to realise a long held dream to make wine together. They specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, M3 Chardonnay, cool climate Shiraz and Pinot Noir.
