Mitchelton Airstrip blends the classic white Rhone varieties Marsanne, Rousanne and Viognier.
Pale straw in colour with fleeting green hues it opens with a fusion of peach and apricot blossom aromatics ahead of complex oatmeal and nougat notes derived from barrel fermentation. Medium bodied in weight, apricot and ripe pear delicately woven amidst a backdrop of savoury pistachio and spicy oak.
The wine is named after the source block on the estate which was once a landing area for light aircraft.
Awards and Accolades
92 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Individually barrel-fermented, then 8 months lees contact in barrel. A time-honoured blend from Mitchelton, devised long before the white Rhone varietal trio was adopted by others. A wine for almost any occasion."
2013 Vintage: 91 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Individually barrel-fermented and matured on lees for 8 months, then blended and bottled. This was the first such blend I can remember, and has stayed the course. It's an ideal white wine style if, for any reason, mature chardonnay isn't available."
