Those who have had the joy of lunching with me know that I love popping a bottle of chilled Soave on the table and this example is one of the best, both in taste and in value, that I have come across for quite some time.
This winery is just a few kilometres from Verona and made from 100% of Italian grape variety called Garganega is going to become my house wine for the next few months. Italy's answer to classic Australian Riesling has a light golden colour in the glass, fantastic exotic fruits on the nose and a palate that is superbly balanced and delivers length like no other wine at this price. So for under $20 a bottle, enjoy all day long.
About the Producer
Montetondo “Montetondo” Soave Classico DOC The Monte Tondo vineyard can be found nestling in the gentle hills of Soave just a few kilometres from Verona on a slope overlooking the valley. Third generation Gino Magnabosco, together with his family, carry on their passion for the land, and the traditions which have handed down. Like skilled craftsmen, they carefully and conscientiously follow all the production phases: from the wine to the bottle, attentive to new improvements in grape-producing technology at all times. Twenty-five hectares of vineyards are situated on the best plots that the Soave zone can offer: Monte Tenda, Monte Foscarino and Monte Tondo, from which the vineyard and this wine takes their name, ensure that the wine produced is intensely perfumed with an unmistakable Soave character somewhere between florals and fruitiness.
