Pale straw with a vibrant green tinge. The nose is subtle and elegant with a sea-breezy freshness, displays key notes of lemon pith, flower stem and hints of oregano and mint. The palate is crisp and alive with refreshing citrus and gooseberry. The wine has a touch of natural fruit sweetness at the centre, but completes with a distinct, polished dry finish.
Vasse Felix began making wines under the Classic label in the 1980s and these wines were among the first labelled with the name "Classic" in Australia.
Since their first vintages, these fruit-driven, approachable blends have maintained a reputation as two of the most popular of their kind in the country.
Classic Dry White is a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and Classic Dry Red is a blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Both have enjoyed longterm acclaim and are regular 90+ scoring wines.
Vasse Felix Classics are distributed in Australia only and are available in most major retail stores and fine wine specialty stores.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "One of these days Vasse Felix may put a foot wrong, but the odds against it are prohibitive. The harmony and seamless fusion of snow pea, Meyer lemon, passionfruit and built-in acidity are all precisely proportioned. Drink now or in 5 years: your choice. Semillon leads (62%), with 35% sauvignon blanc and 3% chardonnay."
From the Winery
Semillon's citrus and floral notes are complemented by the tropical passionfruit aromatics of Sauvignon Blanc. These varieties are picked at reasonably low baume, capturing fine high-note aromas, crisp primary fruit flavours and good acid structure. The Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc juices are then fermented under cool conditions using specially selected yeasts to ensure the varietal characters are accentuated. This wine was fermented without the use of oak for pure fruit expression.
Moderate spring conditions at the end of 2015 helped establish a healthy fruitset and better yields than the previous two seasons. January temperatures were warm, interrupted by one rainfall event late in the month, great viticulture management, clean, well-trimmed canopies and subsequent warm weather prevented disease risk. White varieties were harvested throughout February with elegant flavours and bright natural acidity.
