All Saints Estate Grand Rutherglen Muscat 375ml NV
An Outstanding Example of Rutherglen Muscat! All Saints Estate is one of Australia's original wineries, established in 1864, by two enterprising Scots, George Sutherland Smith and John Banks. Now owned by Brown Brothers the winery has fortified material up to 80 years old which form the basis of many blends.
Very deep walnut brown colour with deep olive, walnut hue - showing considerable bottle age. Superb nose of toffee, raisin, rancio, and raisin cake. Complex, mouthfilling, luscious palate. Flavours of orange marmalade, honey and raisins, filling the palate with the viscous texture of oil. Clean finish. Very long aftertaste of honey, raisins and toffee.
Awards and Accolades
96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Is a neat match with the Grand Muscadelle; here it is richly fruity, with raisins, caramelised ginger and grilled nuts on the mid-palate, changing to an elegant back-palate with a pantry full of spices of Arabia; the overall balance is exceptional, especially for muscat. 375ml."
From the Winery
Made from Brown Muscat grapes from our Wahgunyah vineyard planted in 1920. It is from these (replanted) vineyards that All Saints Estate won Australia's first international Gold Medal, in London, for a sweet blend of Shiraz and Muscat. Brown Muscat is a clone of the oldest and noblest variety of Muscat, Muscat Blanc, Petits Grains (Muscat of Frontignan is a synonym).
Rutherglen Muscats are classified into four tiers that mark a progression in richness, complexity and intensity of flavour, due to the age of wines used. On average they are: Rutherglen Muscat 2-5 yrs Classic Rutherglen Muscat 6-10 yrs Grand Rutherglen Muscat 11-19 yrs Rare Rutherglen Muscat 20 yrs plus
The wine is a blend of Muscats of various ages, sweetness levels and flavours, a combination highlighting the benefits of blending selected parcels from different years. The resultant wine is better than any of the individual components used in the blend.
