Coriole Mary Kathleen Cabernet Merlot 2004
Coriole Mary Kathleen 2004.jpg
Mary Kathleen is named after Mary Kathleen Lloyd, one of the founders of Coriole. It is produced from three small, select vineyards on Coriole's estate, planted between 1968 and 1986. First produced in 1992.

This wine is medium weighted and elegant, and will reward further cellaring up to about 8 years. There are aromas of black currant, spearmint and cinnamon. There are dark berry flavours and dry even tannins.

** 5 Star James Halliday Winery rating **
Elegance rather than puch in this superb 'Reserve ' wine. Wonderful aromas of spearmint, blackcurrant and cinnamon abound.

Although 14% + alcohol this has delightful tannin structure and will reward the patience of any Cellar manager who gives this wine the head it deserves to build steam over the next 10 years.

This enigmatic 'Founders Choice' Cabernet blend made me stop in my tracks! I took a deep breath and revisited the glass. The wine floods the mouth with concentrated blackcurrants and forest berries followed by savory elements and hints of mocha, held by a tight tannin tructure with fine grained cedary oak. It was disturbing to realise the depth of this Cabernet whilst still so young and offering so much more for the future. If it had been my son, I would send him straight over for the next MENSA class. This blend for the wine society of Canada is predominately Cabernet from the best vineyards and blended with some tempranillo that combines with sound smooth chocolaty Cabernet for grip, tannin and firm structure to provide an absolute bonza food wine.

This is it folks, simply put, Pale lemon, green hint, brillant Bouquet - Fresh and vibrant aromatics with intense aromas of gooseberry, melon and capsicum. Palate - Mouth filling with a textural and full bodied palate. Finely balanced with appealing fresh fruits and racy acidity. Great concentration and complexity with good length and a clean crisp finish. Last vintage scooped all the gold and best white wines medals around and here is another stunning example ready to do the same. Stock up for another fantastic spring now!

Hungerford Hill has been rated as a 5 Star winery by James Halliday. The 5 star rating recognises Hungerford Hill as an "outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality." "Attractive blackcurrant and mulberry fruit; good line without without the Cabernet doughnut structure; French oak integrated and balanced." The best Cabernet are often kept to achieve some bottle age and complexity and this saving makes fantastic buying for supreme quality.
