OK, Often I am asked what I buy for the cellar and long to get into? - Well here along with another 100 wines is a keeper. From Peter Bisell and the Balnaves team, this is another wine that goes from strength to strength
Deep rich red in colour, the nose is intense with aromas of cassis and elderberry, offering hints of blackberry and seaweed. The palate is complex, owing to maturation in new and second fill French oak barrels. Cellaring and decanting are recommended given the substantial tannin structure.
Awards and Accolades
96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "From three vineyards, matured for 19 months in French oak from big-name coopers. A serious cabernet showing just what Coonawarra can do in a top vintage; it is intense, complex and packed with cassis/blackcurrant fruit, savoury tannins and positive oak."
2012 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Estate-grown, coming from the Dead Morris, Walker and Quarry Vineyards; it spent 20 months in French oak from top coopers. Full crimson-purple, it is a luscious, full-bodied cabernet, crammed with cassis fruit, quality oak and substantial tannins. Time is on its side, and it really needs 3-5 years before it is first approached."
From the Winery
Vintage 2013 produced good crops with fruit coming in late April and with good fruit definition. Blended from our Dead Morris, Quarry and 1976 Old Cabernet vineyards, this wine spent 19 months in tight-grain French oak from Taransaud, Saury and Berger cooperages, before bottling in December 2014.
Deep rich red in colour, the nose is very perfumed with aromas of pure cassis, violets, blackberry and graphite combined with fine mocha-coffee French oak. The palate is structured and elegant with ripe cassis fruit and a fine-tannin finish. This wine will reward careful cellaring, and we recommend decanting before drinking.
