Juicy, flavoursome and highly aromatic. This Cabernet Franc offers flavours of brambly fruit, red liquorice, clove, mild spice, lavender and earthy notes. Fruit was stomped the old fashioned way - by foot. This wine is great for drinking young, with or without food accompaniment.
Accolades and Awards:
91 Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front "Spicy, packed with juicy redcurrant and blackcurrant, and a pleasing weed, floral and hedgerow perfume. Light to medium bodied, fruity and savoury and stalky all at once, light rasp of tannin, raspberry juice and spice aftertaste. I’m not sure it’s quite as good as the 2015, but for pleasure and drinking appeal, it’s still a winner."
90 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Bright, clear crimson; full of pretty red fruits. It simply can't have been fermented with no pigeage for 10 days on skins then matured in used hogsheads - with no pigeage it would reach 2-3% alcohol intracellular fermentation and then cease all activity."
From the Winery
2017 is a very promising vintage, that may prove to be one of the best seen in the Yarra Valley in recent memory.
Plentiful frosty nights and heavy rains in winter delayed budburst, and spring continued in this mild (and wet) fashion. We had excellent canopies with slowly developing bunches. The mild conditions persisted into January and February. Warm, sunny days (not too warm) with crisp nights and mornings. Perfect for slow ripening, delicate flavours and acid retention. There was no disease threat from rain, and we harvested at leisure.
Meet Franc! 100% whole bunch. An alternative approach to the oldest of wine grapes. All bunches went into the fermenter. Foot stomped once a day. Racked once by gravity. Bottled while bursting with juvenile charm. Minimal adds, no finings.
