Chianti is a classification made up of seven sub-regions. Colli Senesi is in the south and includes the town of San Gimignano. This Chianti is typical of the region and made with 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo Nero. The appearance is vibrant ruby red with a vivacious perfume of ripe dark cherries and raspberry overlain by earthy herbs and violets. The ripe fruit freshness follows onto the palate with a hint of mushroom and nutmeg. The tannins are fine, dry and balanced with a long dry finish. It’s a medium bodied wine perfect for pairing with tomato based sauces and meat dishes.
Denise and Chris Hill are passionate Australian winemakers. They also love discovering interesting handcrafted wines from like-minded family growers across many lands. Sangiovese and Canaiolo are traditional Chianti varieties and whilst there are some emerging producers of Sangiovese in Australia, Chianti Colli Senesi is a unique style of its own. The Dei family are dedicated boutique winemakers farming organically and producing outstanding examples of this classic Tuscan specialty. Available in limited quantities, we hope you enjoy discovering some of the unknown delights from wine regions around the globe.
