Deep ruby red hues are easy on the eye. The nose is lively, raspberry compote and ripe cherry vying for your attention. There are spicy notes of white pepper and earthy undertones. The palate is weighted beautifully, lots of juicy red berry, black cherry and raspberry.
Old vine Grenache fruit presents itself on the front palate whilst the Mourvedre and Shiraz provide structure, concentration and depth. Hints of white pepper and spice are evident with a soft tannin framework ensuring a supple, soft texture to finish.
This blend of 43% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 27% Shiraz is designed to showcase the versatility and strength of three of the area’s key red wine varieties and highlight their importance. This wine derives its depth of flavour and complexity from the blending of three varieties, while early bottling ensures freshness. Seriously one of the bargains of the year, this won't last long - don't miss out.
Award and Accolades
2014 Vintage: 93 Points, Top Value Wine - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Magazine "It's important to get the temper right of these blends and this one does. It's not too sweet, not over-oaked, not too alcoholic. And yet it's ripe and earthen and well-fruited. It flows, it's succulent, it's not simple, and it drinks like a charm."
2013 Vintage: 92 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "Like this wine. It has spice and fruit aplenty but it also feels composed; steady; complete. It tastes of earth, black cherry, raspberry and rusty iron. A wine of the earth, with attitude. Mid weight. Excellent value."
From the Winery
This blend of Grenache (52%), Mourvedre (24%) and Shiraz (24%) is an homage to the great wines of the Southern Rhone, but with a very Barossan accent. These three classic red wine varieties are blended to showcase the unique qualities of each whilst ensuring balance, purity of fruit and the utmost drinkability.
The wine from 2014 showed much early promise, however some late growing season heat and rain episodes ensured that it was not without some nervous moments for the winemakers along the way. A certain amount of nerve was required, but mother nature came to the party in the end and mild perfect conditions late in the season ensured we made it home really happy with the vintage.
