This is an awesome wine and very worthy of your cellar and purchase today. A sensational Barossa blend that punches way beyond its price point and is as succulent as it is svelte and saucy! Aromatic and subtly structured wine with Shiraz providing a backbone of solid dark plum and luscious depth of flavour. Grenache provides a dash of spice and cherry sweetness, taming the Shiraz beautifully, whilst Mataro adds extra layers to the tannins and a little funk and fragrance.
50% Shiraz, 41% Grenache, 9% Mataro
Awards and Accolades
90 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front "It’s right in the zone. It’s an attractive blend of red and black berried fruit flavours, teamed beautifully with anise, leather and those dried, almost rusty spice characters so common in Barossa reds. It’s balanced, it’s ripe, it’s warm but not excessively so. Or not distractingly so. In short, it drinks like a charm, and has plenty of regional character."
2014 Vintage: 94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "48% shiraz, 28% grenache, 24% mataro. Without question one of the best Barossa Valley examples of this blend, synergy its hallmark as it brings its array of red berries, plum, blackberry/cherry flavours onto the stage, emphatically leaving confection behind. Great value."
From the Winery
Turkey Flat wines are made from individual vineyard estates. The original Section One vineyard has the Shiraz, Grenache and small parcels of Mourvedre, Rousanne and Viognier. The highly regarded Cabernet Sauvignon is grown on the banks of the Bethany Creek in a small picturesque vineyard surrounded by ancient gum trees. The “Butchers Block” blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre is sourced from the Stonewell estate. This vineyard is planted on a unique combination of red-brown earth soils (terra rosa) on a unique underlying limestone base. The Marsanne plantings are also at Stonewell.
A dry winter and growing season led to the earliest vintage on record. Though quick the vintage yielded robust flavours and colours.
