With a nose of fresh cherry fruit aromas and light florals, West Cape Howe's Tempranillo Rose balances delicate cherry notes with light spice and a savoury finish. A moderate pink in colour, the wine has a light textural mouthfeel, soft tannins and great weight. One to enjoy alongside food.
Awards and Accolades
94 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Vivid, clear crimson; has the detail, freshness, balance and length missing from the lesser wines ex '17. It has controlled drive and power, with sparkling acidity cleansing and lengthening the finish. High quality rose at the right price raring to go Chinese of any type."
From the Winery
It was a good season for Rose; we had warm days and generally coolish nights which suited the Tempranillo we sourced from Frankland as well as from the Perth Hills....
Several different parcels of fruit were selected for the Rose, then made using different winemaking methods; the early picked fruit (some handpicked & some machine harvested) was crushed and pressed with a short time on skins to pick up some colour in the juice. Some riper picked fruit was handled by the ‘Saignee’ method; the juice being drained from the crusher with just a hint of colour and then fermented at cool temperatures, along with the first portion, to dryness. We’ve bottled this wine early so as to maximise all the delicate fruit flavours.
