The King Valley wine region is located in Victorias north east – about three hours north of Melbourne and seven hours south of Sydney. The King Valley wine region is cool climate and produces in excess of eighteen thousand tonnes of fruit annually. The region is unique as it is able to produce excellent fruit quality consistently, as well as a wide array of fruit types from traditional international varieties to the interesting Italian varieties.
Pizzini’s vineyard has plantings of vines on both the gentle undulating slopes of the King Valley hills as well as the second terrace flats leading to the King River. The vineyard has a well drained north easterly aspect with red volcanic soils containing a high level of decaying basalt on the slopes and gravely, sandy clay loam soils on the second terrace.
From the Winery
Fred Pizzini grew up in Italy and is bringing the taste of his homeland to the Australian dining table. His Sangiovese is one of the best examples in the country, with spicy, savoury fruit hiding a vein of mouth watering acid that is a hallmark of the variety. Delicious now - and will get better with bottle age!
Pietra Rossa is our new name for the well known Pizzini Sangiovese. Mouth-watering aromas include dark cherries, exotic spices, blood plums and cherries. As the wine opens up there are earthy, savoury, cigar box and leather tones, which follow onto the classic Sangiovese palate of vibrant cherry and plum flavours. It is juicy, fleshy and drinkable.
