"Inky purple-crimson, this is a very good full-bodied shiraz, the fruit so concentrated that it doesn't allow any heat ex the alcohol to escape, the front door of the palate bolted shut. If you are prepared to give the wine a bare minimum of 10, better still, 20, years, go for it."
Charles Cimicky's Autograph Shiraz is brooding deep crimson in colour, with youthful shades of garnet and ruby. The enticing nose shows sweet blackberry, plum and subtle dark cherry notes. It's elegantly balanced through the palate, whilst displaying real power and concentration of fruit. This finishes soft and smooth, with good length and fine grained tannin.
Awards and Accolades
2012 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "This is Barossa Valley at its effortless best, with deep black fruit aromas on the bouquet, the spice/earth/mocha/leather spotlights to the abundant black fruits of the medium-bodied palate telling you to enjoy some bottles over the next 10 years, but keep some for the magic that will unfold another 10 years on."
From the Producer
Fruit was sourced from our estate vineyards at Lyndoch from typical soils of red clay/loam over limestone. All vines were hand-pruned and shoot-thinned during the growing season to enable good light penetration and optimum ripeness. Bunch thinning was carried out.
The 2012 vintage experienced exceptional ripening conditions. A warm spring was followed by a mild cool summer, irrigation was largely unnecessary. This Shiraz yield was slightly below average but quality was superb.
After gentle de-stemming purification of fruit was achieved through diligent hand-sorting along a vibrating sorting table. This accommodated the removal of any material other than grapes; only the very best fruit, the near perfect grape then falls through the grid to be gently pierced prior to transfer to open topped vessels for fermentation. Gentle basket pressing ensured selective extraction of natural grape tannins before 19 months maturation in both new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads.
