The Great Southern region of Western Australia is home to some of Australia's most impressive cool climate Shiraz, not to mention the incredible value for money that wines from the region offer! Forest Hill's 2013 Shiraz enjoyed good vintage conditions, the result is a silky smooth shiraz with an elegant palate profile.
Dark red in the glass with flashes of purple, the nose is generous with blackberry and a sprinkling of pepper alongside clove and spice notes. Flavours of satsuma plum and dark fruit don't overwhelm the medium weight palate. There is a touch of acidity that winds down once opened, and will stand the wine in good stead in the cellar. The finish is velvety and complex, begging you to return for another sip.
From the Winery
The fruit was picked then de-stemmed/crushed into 8-tonne open fermenters and inoculated. The fermenters were pumped over with aeration twice a day; temperature was held around 25°C. The wine was then pressed to Burgundian barriques for Malolactic fermentation, allowing a soft integration of the grape and oak tannins. The wine was blended, fined with egg whites and bottled after 18 months maturation.
