This Shiraz is vivid boysenberry in colour with hints of purple at the rim. Aromas of cherry, chocolate and oaky spice play with notes of black currant. On the palate, juicy fruits lead to a silky firm finish.

2013 Vintage: 90 Points - Mike Bennie, Wine Front "Raspberry, red cherries, whiff of coconut-dusted-apricots, white pepper. A fair dash of white pepper in the palate, more red fruits, medium-bodied feel, cool and lengthy, hit of apricot-like sweetness too. Acidity pinches the wine a touch, but kind of refreshes the mouth and helps lick the sweetness away to a dryish finish. It’s a lovely, even-tempered, very easy to drink wine set firmly in the cooler expression of shiraz. Readily enjoyable."
2012 Vintage: 94 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Companion "There's 10% tempranillo in this, but regardless of the composition, it's a smashing drink. Screams value. Complex notes of dark blackberry, black pepper, smoked meats and black cherry. Flavour, balance and texture are all beyond criticism."
From the Winery
The fruit for this wine was harvested during the day in March and April in 2014. Fermented at around 26 ̊ C in high-tech stainless steel sweep-arm fermenters to maximise colour and preserve primary fruit flavours. We chose to use a combination of three different yeasts to ferment this wine because each one contributes its own unique attributes that build layers of complexity and interest in this wine. This wine was matured for 12 months using new French and American oak.
The progeny of a perfectly mild and dry spring, this shiraz was blended with a dash of viognier (4%) from the central Victoria region, Dookie, to give it a subtle apricot perfume lift.
The Fowles Wine vineyards and winery are located in the dramatic granite landscape of Strathbogie Ranges region of Victoria, Australia.
Fowles Wine crafts some of Australia’s finest cool climate wines, winning many of Australia’s most prestigious wine medals and trophies. The Fowles Wine team is energetic and enterprising, continuing to break new ground by proudly taking the Strathbogie Ranges ‘message in a bottle’ to the world with some of Australia’s most exciting wines.
This is a harsh Australian landscape with soil that is nutrient poor and retains very little water – difficult for farmers to grow livestock, but a wonderful landscape for grape growers seeking to grow fruit with great intensity. Couple these attributes with the cool climate, gentle aspect and glorious summer sunshine and the Strathbogie Ranges is an ideal region for growing grapes and making wine.
