This Shiraz from Geoff Hardys amazing Kuitpo Vineyard is picked when the white pepper character is evident at about 13 Baume and co-fermented with around 5%Viognier to lift the aromatics of the wine and give you a lovely big romantic, when Harry met Sally, hit, straight up.
The perfume of red fruits and fresh mulberries laced with nuances of lavender, tar and earth. Fine silky fruit tannins are delicately balanced with French oak structure while natural acidity enhances the complexity and provides for the expected persistence of flavour.
A wine that really ticks all the boxes for almost any wine writer, journo, evangelist or The big man upstairs himself! Not too big, and not to elegant but , Just bang on brothers and sisters. So as it is sure to continue its journey for years to come, my suggestion to you politely is to snap some up for your own personal enjoyment.
Team up with grilled beetroot and ashed goats cheese salad with raspberry vinaigrette . Or forget the salad and marinate the goat!
TE: Oak/Alcohol(just) on the nose - jammy sweetness but not sickly - lasting finish.
BK: White chocolate and berries on the nose; very present tanin to drink.
MM: nose: sweet raspberry
palate: raspberry jubes - good wine.
