Mountadam step it up here with a shiraz from a cooler area of the Barossa. It's a rich, ripe style that shows dark cherries, black pepper and charry oak on the nose, whilst the palate is full-bodied, plush, super-ripe and sweetly-fruited, with generous licks if mocha oak, talcy tannins, and a decent, sumptuous finish. It will kick on in the cellar for a few years, but would also be great tonight with roast beef and spuds.
From the Winery
The block was harvested in late March and the grapes were manually sorted prior to crushing. Fermentation was carried out in 8T submerged cap fermenters. The wine was run off daily and returned to the fermenter for 14 days. The skins were then allowed to sit submerged for a further 5 weeks prior to pressing. Maturation was carried out in new French oak barriques for 24 months.
