A True Blue Barossa Shiraz is here to simply blow your taste buds back to Bethlehem! Or, with very limited quantities available, to make you the smartest man in town!
True to its roots, The Progenitor is a ripe, rich, full flavoured Barossa Shiraz of depth and substance. A tightly structured wine with layers of complex fruits, full round mouthfeel, fine approachable tannins and good length. Whilst closed on the nose when initially opened the wine benefits from decanting and time to breathe.
This wine is a balanced wine with all the traditional cues of a Barossa Shiraz with a hint of intrigue. An attractive wine now with layers of fruits complexity, full and round in the mouth, yet soft approachable tannins and good length.
The fruit is 100% Single Vineyard Barossa Valley shiraz This vineyard is a single cordon vineyard at 450 m above sea level. The low yielding vines produce a fruit that is dense, dark and concentrated in its flavour. Traditional winemaking techniques including hand plunged open fermenters were used to extract the best from the fruit. Post ferment the wine was pressed off and entombed in French oak for a period of 18 months. The wine received minimal intervention from this point.
We implore you to buy as much as you can - as quickly as you can.
This will cellar very well.
From the Winery
South Australia represents only 9% of the Australian population but is home to 50% of the Australian wine industry.
GISA is Located in the Old Penfold’s Sparkling Winery, at the top of The Parade, at 578 The Parade Auldana. Adjacent to the Magil Estate vineyard, nestled at the base of the foothills, GISA is an acronym for Geographic Indicator South Australia. The ‘GI’ is the region from which fruit is sourced, and this is a legal requirement when making statements as to the origin of the wine on the label.
Our wines are made using a combination of traditional winemaking techniques -basket pressing and hand plunging – and the best modern practices to capture the character of the grapes.
GISA is a small family owned and run winery, which means we are often forced to wear many hats. We have wine scattered throughout several wineries from Waikerie in the Riverland through Woodside and the Piccadilly Valley and some at cellars at Auldana. We do this as different wineries are better suited to the production techniques that match our desired end result for individual wines. That and we don’t have the range of tank necessary.
We aspire to make interesting, premium wines which reflect the regional character and grape variety. These wines are made in very limited quantities.
