Tahbilk have a legendary reputation, purveyors of a distinguished brand they represent one of the oldest winemaking families in the country. This Shiraz is one of the true bargains in Australian wine and continues to offer flavour beyond its price tag and an ability to age brilliantly. Notes of dried plums, blackberry and black cherry preserves and mulberries over chocolate, aniseed, tar and damp earth. Full bodied in the mouth, it provides firm, tight-knit tannins and a good amount of blackberry and savoury flavours that linger long onto the finish.
Awards and Accolades
90 Points, Special Value Wine "This wine was tasted after massive full-bodied shirazs with a price tag of up to $70, and half suggested the prices of this and the others should be swapped. This is a delicious drink now style, its medium-bodied palate full of red and purple fruits, oak and tannins bit players. Exceptional value."
Winery of the Year 2016 - James Halliday, Wine Companion
2013 Vintage: 91 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "The spice, anise and pepper notes that contribute the savoury component of this wine aren't common in Tahbilk Shiraz. This is in no way intended to be critical, if anything, the reverse, for there's ample plum and blackberry fruit to accommodate those characters. The substantially upgraded packaging is another plus."
From the Winery
Sourced from nearly 30 hectares of vines planted at various times from the 1930s through the early 2000s, Tahbilk Shiraz releases are noted as being fruit driven wines of much flavour and substance.
Our 2015 offering fits that mould, defined as it is by varietally expressive spice, anise and black pepper characters with rich blackberry, plum and mulberry fruits. Supple and savoury, there are evident dry, black tea tannins to support extended time in the bottle under the right conditions.
