Sourced from some of the oldest plantings in Marlborough, this stylish Chardonnay is one of the region's premium offerings.
The nose exhibits ripe citrus, minerality, hints of roasted nuts and toasty aromas together with savoury overtones derived from extended contact with yeast lees. Rich and full-bodied, the palate displays ripe citrus with chalky textural yeast complexity enhanced by flavours of roasted nuts.
Awards and Accolades
96 Points - Bob Campbell MW "Concentrated chardonnay with grapefruit, struck flint, mineral, hazelnut, brioche and spicy oak flavours. Youthful wine that’s approachable now and offers cellaring potential. A very classy wine indeed, with subtle complexity and underlying power."
2014 Vintage: 93 Points - Mary-Ann Worobiec, Wine Spectator "One of the best examples of Chardonnay from New Zealand, this is vivid, stylish and expressive with layers of sweet cream, orange blossom, nutmeg and mango flavors that are rich, juicy and succulent, revealing plenty of intensity and energy on the long lingering finish. Drink now through 2021."
From the Winery
2/3 Mendoza, 1/3 B95 clones hand-picked from our home vineyard at 5 tonnes/ha (30hl/ha), from vines dating back to 1981. Fruit is whole bunch pressed and transferred directly to French oak barrels (15% new) and left to undergo indigenous primary and secondary malolactic fermentations for 18 months in barrel. Bottled without fining and with only minimal filtration.
A ripe, citrus driven Chardonnay. Characteristic biscuit and oatmeal secondary characters and mild flinty notes contrast and compliment the fruit.
Our hallmark fresh, vibrant acidity offered by the Mendoza clone offers vitality and vibrancy. A modest amount of new oak delivering subtle char and phenolic structure to the wine. An intensely flavoured yet youthful and lively vintage for Dog Point Chardonnay.
