Golden straw with lime green tinges in the sun. Showing an attractive array of fresh aromas - stone fruits, pineapple and some lovely citrus characters are all apparent on the nose. Subtle light toasty oak notes add a touch of complexity to the fruit driven aromas. An appealing range of fresh tantalising fruit flavours with hints of toasty oak notes to highlight the generous palate structure. On the mouthfeel there is subtle richness and creaminess with light oak adding to the enticing fruit flavours and the palate is fresh and lingering. A great food wine, perfect with a creamy, slightly smoked, trout and fresh pea risotto.
Awards and Accolades
Special Value Wine, 90 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Not fat and not skinny. Walks a mid line between the ultra modern anorexic styles of chardonnay and the burlier styles we've emerged from. This tastes of peach and oak-spice and chalk and has just-enough punch, and elegance, to keep all-comers happy."
From the Winery
The 2012 Coonawarra vintage is remembered not only for the seasonal variability, but the outstanding ripe fruit flavours. During veraison, slightly above average temperatures and dry conditions produced fruit in excellent condition for this style.
Harvest of Chardonnay was approximately one week earlier than usual and the grapes were in pristine condition, disease free and near optimum ripeness. The wines have attractive ripe varietal expression showing the vibrant stone fruit flavours expected of the variety.
