Brilliant pale straw colour in the glass with lifted aromas of zesty citrus peel, some rosewater and musky notes. The palate is citrus driven, with secondary flavours of grapefruit and soft lychee. Fresh acidity provides lovely freshness and good length to the finish. Drink it any time in the next 5-6 years.
Awards and Accolades
TROPHY & GOLD - Perth Royal Wine Awards 2017 96+ Points - Canberra International Riesling Challenge
2016 Vintage: 90 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "This is floral and pretty and yet it has length and (just enough) substance. It’s a lovely style of drinking riesling. Frangipani, lemon blossom, crisp green apples and slate. You could describe this in many ways but floral elements are always going to be emphasised. The mid-palate isn’t especially intense but it doesn’t really need to be."
From the Winery
The estate grown fruit was harvested in the early hours of the morning, preserving the delicate varietal flavours that define this cool climate, aromatic wine. All fermentation was carrier out in stainless steel, at cool temperatures to preserve the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit.
A classic cold climate growing season with ample rainfall and cold temperatures was followed by a dry and sunny Autumn. The result being a slow, even ripening with tremendous flavour development at a low sugar levels.
Alkoomi – an Aboriginal word meaning ‘a place we chose’, is one of Australia’s most remote wineries, tucked away in the cool, yet sunny wine region of Frankland River, 360km south of Perth in the vast Great Southern of Western Australia.
One of WA’s largest family owned and operated wine producers, Alkoomi is run by the third and fourth generation; owners Sandy and Rod Hallett, with their daughters, together they passionately follow in the footsteps of Alkoomi founders Merv and Judy Lange, who pioneered the Frankland wine region, establishing a reputation for making varietally expressive wines with exceptional depth of flavour. Established in 1971, Alkoomi started out as a single hectare of Cabernet Sauvignon, today they are now 105 hectares with their philosophy of favouring quality over quantity, while managing their land in an environmentally sustainable manner.
