Dry Riesling is a truly captivating experience and one of my personal favourites. Something of a forgotten hero, it has style, sophistication and elegance.
Eden Valley is a distinct cool climate region renowned for producing crisp, dry, aromatic expressions of this variety. The ancient geological structures and high elevation are perfect for the subtle, steely characteristics of Riesling. This wine has a delicate pale yellow colour with brilliant flashes of green hues. It has a distinct mineral edge and displays vibrant lemon and lime aromas with hints of jasmine and orange blossom. The delicate aromatics follow onto the palate which is dominated by the racy citrus tang of lime and grapefruit with subtle hints of crushed herbs and fragrant petals. A perfect partner to fresh oysters, prawns, crab or smoked salmon. It’s just starting to develop the classic toast and lanolin characters of careful cellar aging.
Background Information:
The Broken Earth wines are a collection of limited release, personal favourites that express an extra dimension of character and flavour. This wine was grown in the cool hills near Angaston overlooking the famous Lindsay Park horse stud. Careful handpicking and bunch selection have resulted in an elegant wine that is starting to develop some rich honey and marmalade complexity.
