From the Great Southern region comes this excellently balanced, crisp and citrus driven riesling. Initial aromas consist of lifted floral notes, lemon zest and lime skin. The mouthfeel, whilst initially taut with natural acidity, opens out gradually to reveal a fleshy texture with developing mineral characteristics through the crisp finish.
Awards and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Early morning machine-harvested, no frills cool fermentation in stainless steel, bottled Jun. It's impossible to determine what the contribution of 2% traminer has made to the wine (or why it was included). This is an aristocratic riesling with citrus peel and crunchy acidity creating a presence not to be denied. Nonetheless, its quality lies in the distant future."
2012 Vintage: 93+ Points - Gary Walsh, Wine Front "Slatey petrol/mineral, subtle stonefruit perkiness and florals along with some citrus. Typical racy and tight style – a fine boned, flinty crunchy wine that’s a little austere, though not unconquerable in its youth. Finishes with squeeze of lime and spice and plenty of dry flinty length."
From the Winery
The Mount Barker vineyard typically experiences Warm, dry summers with cool, wet winters. Influenced by both the Southern and Indian Oceans, Mount Barker has warm days but cools down overnight, allowing for slow extended growing and ripening season. We believe this extended ripening period is a major contributor to not only elegant and varietal fruit but also a ripe tannin structure.
Our old vines which include the original plantings in 1965, are very special to Forest Hill and are treated with a great deal of respect. The nature of old vines necessitates special treatment in viticultural management ensuring hand harvesting and pruning. These gnarly old vines are deep rooted and characterised by lower vigour and yields with smaller berries and intense flavours.
