Konrad Marlborough Riesling 2010 |

|
A single vineyard wine grown on the family owned and managed vineyard in the Waihopai valley. Trained on a double arched cane trellis with selective shoot and bunch thinning. 2010 was quite a leafy year which protected the fruit from sunburn allowing for a pleasant departure in our winemaking.
They decided that the juice needed skin contact so it was crushed and soaked for 6 hours before gently pressing. Ferment was cool in tank and allowed to run to near complete dryness. Given the nature of the skin phenolics we gently fined the wine with skim milk prior to bottling in December 2010.
After 10 years of making this wine Konrad learned a thing or two about this fascinating variety. The nose is quite complex showing the hallmark floral and citrus aromatics but there is also a subtle spiciness with the 2010 vintage. The palate is reasonably full bodied and deliciously dry but avoids austerity by having such an array of ripe Riesling characters from apple and peach to lemon and lime all buoyed along by mouth-wateringly juicy acidity.
A well structured Riesling drinking nicely while young, but with sufficient concentration to warrant cellaring for 3 to 5 years.
This wine partners well with spicy South East Asian cuisine try it with a Tom Yum hot and sour soup
