Brilliant pale green colour. Spotlessly clean and quite expressive, displaying citrus florals, apple and subtle notes of stone fruits and slate. Crisp, fresh and dry, loaded with “waxy” lemon and grapefruit flavours wrapped around a core of well balanced mineral acidity.
Makes a lovely drink as a fresh, young white wine, but will take 5-7 years in the bottle for those who like bottle aged Riesling. Still the world’s best Oyster wine.
Awards and Accolades
2016 Vintage: 93+ Points - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front "As is the usual style, there’s a kiss of softness and perfume above juicy lemon/lime flavour, cool crunchy acidity, along with a subtle sweet silkiness, then the twist of lime and waft of bathtime fragrance on a minerally and gently chalky finish of good length. It’s good. It will improve with a little more time in bottle too. Grouse."
2015 Vintage: 94 Points, Special Value Wine - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "The grapes are part estate and part contract-grown from Polish Hill River, Watervale, Leasingham and Sevenhill, standard vinification. A generous and immediately enjoyable wine, filling the mouth with lime, lemon and apple flavours, perfectly braced by acidity."
From the Winery
Traditionale always makes a terrific drink upon release, but 5 -7 years in the cellar will amply reward those who like their Rieslings with some bottle age. Drink with any seafood or white meat (of course), but it does work admirably with gruyere cheese too.
