From the Winery
A dry and fresh style showing intense passionfruit and exotic tropical fruit flavours. Lively acidity is balanced well by a light sweetness, providing fantastic weight and length to this exceptionally structured wine.
The climate building up to the 2016 vintage was a mild and cool winter and spring which helped the grapes produce excellent varietal flavours with good natural acid. However during summer early rain and high temperature conditions were present for a few weeks of the growing period meaning that fruit reached maturity a lot earlier than expected for most varieties. This made it a very challenging vintage especially for varieties like Pinot Gris, none the less even with those changing conditions, excellent vineyard management resulted in the quality of the fruit received being very good.
Harvested in the cool of the night to retain the gentle aromatics of the variety, the fruit was carefully crushed to press with the free run juice quickly fined and then racked into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. The wine was matured on yeast lees for six to eight weeks to enhance the natural fruit flavours and contribute richness across the mid palate. The resulting wine was blended and refined before bottling.
