Mount Riley is a family owned New Zealand company with strong traditional values and a focus on delivery of excellent value wines. We were established in 1992 by John Buchanan, who has been actively involved in the wine industry since the 1970’s. Mount Riley's Head Winemaker Bill Hennessy ("Digger") has been leading Mount Riley's winemaking since 1998. In 2004 John's youngest daughter Amy joined Mount Riley as Sales & Marketing Director. Mount Riley is run by a small, dedicated team. The passion held by our team for their craft ensures that wines of the highest quality are produced.
Since its first vintage in 1996, Mount Riley had been focused on over delivering quality for price and producing dependable wines that wine enthusiasts will love and seek out. Mount Riley has been one of the fastest growing Marlborough estates and is today among the top 10 vineyard owners in Marlborough and the top 20 wineries in NZ in terms of total sales.
A really vibrant mid-red with purple / violet hues colouration gives this yummy Pinot a head start. The bouquet has enticing blackcurrant, plum and violet characters, supported by spicy white pepper and savoury notes. A seriously scrumptious supple wine with concentrated, fresh fruit flavours, fine tannins and a clean crisp finish. Drinking well now, this wine will continue to drink well up to 2010.

Palate - Mouth filling with a textural and full bodied palate. Finely balanced with appealing fresh fruits and racy acidity. Great concentration and complexity with good length and a clean crisp finish. A lovely Dark Ruby colour assaults your eye straight away. The nose shows aromas of plums, mocha with floral notes dominating.
An underlying spicy/cinnamon complexity is already evident at this early age and will develop savoury, gamey characters with bottle age. The Palate is sweet fruit dominating with softness and balance. Silky tannin structure accentuates the fruit elegance giving a beautifully integrated and balanced wine. |
